I have  always been interested in the interactions between the brain and body and the powerful ways in which emotional, psychological, social, and behavioral factors can directly affect health.

I completed dual training in internal medicine and psychiatry at Stanford and Santa Clara Valley Medical Center. During the course of my career I have had the opportunity to work in adult primary care, outpatient psychiatry, and community mental health settings.  From 2008 - 2019 I served as the Chief of the Inpatient Psychiatry Consultation Service treating patients with co-occuring medical and psychiatric disorders.

My interest in treating chronic pain and functional disorders began when I developed chronic migraine headaches.  After many years of severe symptoms and only limited benefit from standard medical treatments, I finally found significant relief from a mind body approach that included cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), Pain Reprocessing Therapy (PRT), mindfulness practices and exposure therapy. My recovery has inspired me to help other people with similar mind body related disorders.

I have lived in Palo Alto, California for almost 30 years.  When I am not working with patients I enjoy spending time with my family, hiking, yoga and playing music.
